In Dear Literature: The Market, the final episode of this four-part Dear Literature mini-series, hosts Lalie and Sophia examine the publishing industry not just as a creative space, but as a competitive marketplace shaped by branding, visibility, and scarce reader attention. Featuring insights from conversations with Tom Grattan, Katherine J. Chen, Jessica Brody, Audrey Bellezza, Emily Harding, and educators Mr. Baron and Mr. Safford, the episode asks what happens when branding becomes as valuable as craft itself, and what that means for the future of literature.

From Beginning to Now

Dear Literature is the spinoff of the well-loved Deranged Bookworm podcast, featuring Lalie as the sole host this time around. The series originally began as Deranged Bookworm with Lalie’s older friend Malia, but after Malia graduated, it didn’t feel right to continue the series without her.

After much debate, rather than simply renaming the podcast A Deranged Bookworm, Lalie created Dear Literature—a more analytical exploration of literature that keeps the same spirit of curiosity, conversation, and good-hearted fun.
