“It’s always the people closest to you who have the most to hide.”
– A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder
In A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, Holly Jackson takes us to Fairview, a small town with a big secret. High school student Pip Fitz-Amobi reopens a cold case for her senior project, digging into the murder of Andie Bell and the boy accused of killing her. What starts as a school project spirals into a dangerous investigation filled with lies, secrets, and plenty of suspects.
– Pippa ‘Pip’ Fitz-Amobi –
Pip is the type of protagonist who always has her nose in everyone’s business—and for good reason. She’s sharp, methodical, and determined to uncover the truth, no matter what it takes. Her investigative skills are impressive, but her character really comes into her own in later books, where her emotional depth and personal growth take center stage.
– Ravi Singh –
Ravi is the kind of guy you want in your corner—funny, resourceful, and fiercely loyal. As the brother of the accused killer, he becomes Pip’s partner in uncovering the truth. While he plays more of a supporting role in this book, his charm and sincerity make him a standout character who only gets better in the series.
– My Honest Review –
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder has a compelling premise and an intricate plot that keeps you guessing until the very end. It’s easy to see why this book has such a devoted following. That said, the writing felt a little flat—perfectly fine for a YA book, but it lacked the punch and polish that could have made it truly memorable.
The characters, while interesting, felt a bit flat here. Pip and Ravi’s potential is evident, but they don’t fully shine until later in the series. The book does a good job of setting the stage for their growth, but as a standalone, it didn’t quite hit the mark for me.
