Review: The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson

Book Title:
The Reappearance of Rachel Price
Author: Holly Jackson
Published in 2024

Known for her gripping narratives and morally complex characters, Jackson delivers yet again with this mystery about trust, memory, and the secrets families hide.

When Rachel Price reappears years after vanishing on a cold winter night, her daughter Annabel “Bel” is thrust into a storm of unanswered questions. Rachel’s sudden return during the filming of a true crime documentary leaves Bel suspicious and determined to uncover the truth about her mother’s disappearance—and her family’s hidden past.

“Because her disappearance was like a puzzle, and it’s human nature to want to solve a puzzle, don’t you think?”

Annabel “Bel” Price

Bel’s journey is the heart of the story. Her character is both determined and vulnerable as she pieces together fragments of her past while questioning everything she thought she knew about her family.

Rachel Price

Rachel is a mystery unto herself. Her behavior is both cryptic and unsettling, and Jackson keeps readers on edge as they, like Bel, try to figure out whether Rachel is a victim or hiding something sinister.

My Honest Review

Having read all of Jackson’s books, I was thrilled by how The Reappearance of Rachel Price combines tension with a deeply personal, character-driven narrative. The true crime documentary angle adds a new twist, unseen in Jackson’s novels before.

The writing is atmospheric, the twists are brilliantly crafted, and the themes of trust and betrayal resonate long after the final page.

While the pacing slows slightly in the middle, the explosive final act more than makes up for it. The Reappearance of Rachel Price is not only my favorite Jackson book but also a must-read for fans of thrillers and mysteries packed with emotional depth.

Happy Reading!
